1 Day Perth

Start your first day exploring Perth (Boorloo), the vibrant capital of Western Australia as well as the sunniest in Australia. Explore the lush beauty of Kings Park & Botanic Garden (Kaarta Koomba), or visit the iconic Elizabeth Quay (Goomup) and Bell Tower. Cruise along the Swan River (Derbarl Yerrigan) for breathtaking views. Discover history at The Perth Mint and immerse yourself in the city’s culture by taking a segway or walking tour. Visit the WA Museum Boola Bardip or Art Gallery of WA for art and culture enthusiasts. Experience the thrill of Matagarup Zip + Climb or learn about Aboriginal culture with Go Cultural Aboriginal Tours. Finally, relax on one of Perth’s 19 stunning beaches, blessed with snow-white sands and pristine waters, and then witness the mesmerising sunset over the Indian Ocean.

Day 2 & 3 Perth to Augusta 4 hrs (320km)

Embark on a picturesque drive from Perth heading south towards Augusta, driving through the surrounding lush, green forests. Take a guided (Jewel and Lake Caves) or self-guided (Mammoth Cave) tour into an underground wonderland with dazzling stalactites and stalagmites. Continue south and keep a look out for the famous stingrays of Hamelin Bay – they’re wild yet tame and call this beach home.

Augusta is as far south-west as you can go in Australia. Don’t miss the many boutique wineries and galleries peeking through the trees as the perfect spot for lunch before making your way to Cape Leeuwin. Right on the tip of rugged Cape Leeuwin, you can head up to the top of the historic lighthouse (the largest of its kind on mainland Australia) or cast your eyes down to watch the waters of the Indian and Southern oceans collide. From June to September, all eyes turn to the waters of Flinders Bay where migrating humpback and southern right whales gather for a little rest and play before continuing their journey north to the breeding grounds.

Day 3 & 4 Augusta to Margaret River 30 mins (50km)

It’s a short drive to the township of Margaret River. 

The town of Margaret River and its surrounds invites you to indulge and sample all it has to offer. Many world-renowned wineries, breweries and distilleries are within a 15-minute drive. Take a guided tour and taste rich cabernets, hoppy ales and everything in between. Inland, vines frame cellar doors, barrels of wine and some of Western Australia’s best dining experiences including the Epicurean Tour with wine tasting and 5-course tasting menu at Vasse Felix. Walk off any extravagance in the many forest trails, or opt for canoeing along Margaret River, which makes its way to the Indian Ocean at Surfer’s Point, Prevelly, close to peaceful Gnarabup Beach.

Experience the quirky character of Cowaramup, a picturesque little town in the region that embraces the fun side of its name with 42 life-sized fibreglass cows around the town, and streets lined with artisanal crafts and providores.

Day 5 Margaret River to Dunsborough 38mins (50km)

Head north and you’re clearly in chardonnay country. Choose from a picture-perfect lunch spot in Yallingup, Dunsborough, or at a local winery. You can also discover the natural wonder of Ngilgi Cave on a unique Aboriginal cultural tour. From the beautiful beaches at Eagle Bay, Meelup, and Bunker Bay, catch amazing sunsets and do some whale watching in the season. 

Dunsborough is a relaxed yet refined coastal town with stunning crystalline turquoise water, granite boulder stacks and leafy canopies. It’s only a six-minute drive out of town or a captivating, one-hour coastal walk along the Cape Naturaliste headland.

On the way back to town, drop into Eagle Bay Brewing Co, Wise Wine and Meelup Farmhouse, just a few of the many wineries, breweries and restaurants that dot Dunsborough’s surrounding landscape.

On Dunsborough’s main street, day spas mingle with homeware boutiques and photography studios. The flat, sandy town beaches are especially loved by families; the shallow, tranquil ocean allows for safe paddling. Food trucks park at some of them, making for easy alfresco meals, while town restaurants offer everything from Asian fare to vegan dining and gastro pub meals.

Day 6 – Dunsborough to Busselton 30mins (25km)

In the morning it’s a short 30-minute drive to the town of Busselton (Undalup) set on the Indian Ocean. As the depths of the Indian Ocean are so far out, Busselton Jetty was repeatedly extended, becoming the longest timber-piled jetty in the Southern Hemisphere. At its end, find an underwater observatory with enormous windows placing you alongside colourful coral, patterned fish, and the occasional turtle. You get to descend several floors below the waterline while staying perfectly dry.
