Suggested Itinerary

Day 1 – Perth city and surrounds

Start your first day exploring Perth, the vibrant capital of Western Australia as well as the sunniest capital city in Australia. Explore the lush beauty of Kings Park & Botanic Garden (Kaarta Koomba), or visit the iconic Elizabeth Quay (Goomup) & Bell Tower. Cruise along the Swan River for breathtaking views. Discover history at the Perth Mint and immerse yourself in the city’s culture by taking a segway or walking tour. Visit the WA Museum Boola Bardip or Art Gallery of WA for art enthusiasts. Experience the thrill of Matagarup Zip + Climb or learn about Aboriginal culture with Go Cultural Aboriginal Tours. Finally, relax on one of Perth’s 19 stunning beaches, blessed with snow-white sands and pristine waters, and then witness the mesmerising sunset over the Indian Ocean.

Included in the itinerary is a half-day city tour, ideal to get your bearings in this fascinating city.

Day 2 – Rottnest Island

Included in your itinerary is a day trip to Rottnest Island, including pick up from your hotel, the 30-minute ferry from Perth to Rottnest and bike hire.

Rottnest Island is home to the happiest animals on earth – quokkas – and is a holiday haven of pristine beaches, aquamarine bays, bike tracks and walking trails. Rottnest’s beaches are like a slice of paradise, with blindingly white sand, water so clear you can see down to your toes, and majestic coves formed by naturally sculpted rocks.

In all, there are 63 secluded, sandy havens, linked by paved riding and walking trails. The Basin, Geordie Bay and Little Parakeet Bay are favourites close to Thomson Bay settlement, while those towards West End have a raw, rugged appeal. From certain spots, you’ll see humpback whales breaching (they migrate from September to November), seals floating or dolphins bobbing. Beneath the waterline, there are numerous species of coral, tropical fish, and abundant seagrasses. Both Parker Point and Little Salmon Bay have snorkel trails dotted with underwater panels. Signposted walking trails also crisscross the island’s heart, with more than 45kms of connected trails and boardwalks to follow.

Day 3 – Fremantle

Fremantle (Walyalup), a 30-minute drive from Perth, has a way of drawing you in and making you want to stay forever. Its charm is found in narrow streets lined with historic buildings, a seagull-scattered port bobbing with fishing boats, one-off shops, unconventional breweries, and quirky buskers. A visit to the Fremantle Markets is a must. Dating back to 1897, Fremantle Markets is one of the port city’s most significant landmarks and has rightfully earned itself a reputation as one of the best destinations in Fremantle for locals and tourists alike, as well as a leading source of independent wares and produce.

Explore the historic Fremantle Prison one of Western Australia’s premier cultural heritage sites and tourist attractions. It is the state’s only world heritage-listed building and the only world heritage-listed site in the Perth metropolitan region.

Visitors can ’step inside and do time’ with Fremantle Prison’s experienced guides on a range of fascinating tours. “Convict Prison”, “Behind Bars” and “True Crime” tours highlight convict and prison life. Finally, relax and enjoy a beer at Gage Roads Brewery!

Day 4 – Full Day self-drive Pinnacles & Lancelin

Drive distance/time: Perth to the Pinnacles – approx. 200km (2.5 to 3 hrs); the Pinnacles to Lancelin (Wangaree) approx. 80 km (1 hour); Lancelin to Perth approx. 1.5 hr (130km)

In under 3 hours from Perth, following the scenic Indian Ocean Drive, you can transport yourself to another world, venturing into the Pinnacles along a scenic drive or walk trail.  Visit the Pinnacles Desert Discovery Centre and see the Pinnacles’ story revealed in interpretive displays, as well as some insights into the plants and animals that have made their home here.  An hour’s drive south from the Pinnacles is the town of Lancelin – a haven for water sports lovers where the best in the world test their skill in world-class wave and wind conditions. We highly recommend visiting Lancelin sand dunes where visitors can try out sandboarding down massive 45-degree angle dunes, which are the biggest in Western Australia.

Day 5 – Swan Valley

Spend your last full day exploring the Swan Valley, just a is a 30-minute drive from Perth CBD. The Swan Valley is Western Australia’s oldest wine region offering a patchwork of wineries and galleries, cellar doors, breweries and produce stalls, on a gentle 32km drive around the region.

Visit wineries, such as Mandoon Estate and Sandalford Wines, as well as The House of Honey, Mondo Nougat, Margaret River Chocolate and Dale Tilbrook Experiences. A host of boutique breweries, cider houses and distilleries have made the Swan Valley home. New arrivals, Bailey Brewing Co and Funk 2.0 by Funk Cider join multi award-winning Old Young’s, Harris Organic Wine and Spirits, Sin Gin Distillery, Mash Brewing and more.

We also suggest checking out Caversham Wildlife Park for the opportunity to hold a koala and feed kangaroos.

Day 6

Enjoy the morning in Perth before returning home or exploring another stunning region in Western Australia.
